Description

Eyedaptic Glasses for Macular Degeneration

Eyedaptic specializes in lightweight, augmented reality (AR) wearable technology for the visually impaired.  Eyedaptic’s glasses optimize remaining vision for those with age-related macular degeneration and other low vision diseases.

How does Eyedaptic work?

Eyedaptic uses augmented reality and proprietary software to simulate natural vision.  Individuals with retina-related vision loss can experience greater independence using Eyedaptic.

When you put on the glasses, a small embedded camera captures your surroundings, manipulates and enhances the pixels and re-displays the image.  The result?  You can now use your functional peripheral vision to its fullest potential.

While other low vision solutions focus solely on magnification within a limited field-of-vision, Eyedaptic’s software technology brings the entire image into view by optimizing your peripheral vision.  And, unlike virtual reality wearables, Eyedaptic glasses are not fully enclosed, giving the user a better sense of their surroundings.

Eyedaptic products are developed in conjunction with leading ophthalmology retinal specialists, low vision optometrists and occupational therapists.

The EYE5 is the latest model from Eyedaptic featuring a high-resolution, 8-megapixel camera for excellent image quality.  The EYE5 is extremely lightweight, weighing in at less than 3 ounces.  The EYE5 functions as both a wearable visual aid and a handheld magnifier with the included cell phone.  The cell phone, which handles image processing and battery charging, is tethered to the glasses for vision-enhancing use.  EYE5 glasses offer the user a discreet and comfortable, 2-in-1 solution with powerful, easy-to-use EyeSwitch technology.

Notably, EYE5 has an extended battery life of up to three hours for longer wearability.  It also incorporates a new Facial Detection feature to help see family and friends.

Here are EYE5’s key features:

Use Autozoom to enlarge text to your most preferred size, an easy and efficient way to view text without the need for any gestures or controls.  In auto-mode, the device automatically refocuses depending on what you’re looking at, making EYE3 extremely easy and straightforward to operate.  Looking at something at distance, like a sign or restaurant menu, the device comes into focus.  When you shift your gaze to near, it automatically refocuses.

Image Stabilization provides the best image quality at higher magnification levels.  In Plain Zoom mode, you control uniform magnification in full-screen.

What’s more, the device is completely wireless and self-contained, and can be worn comfortably for extended periods.  You can move about freely and enjoy superior image quality with the high-resolution camera and display.

What are people saying about Eyedaptic?

Wearing Eyedaptic glasses, users enjoy a wide variety of everyday activities, even those they may have previously given up due to vision loss.  As a result, they experience renewed independence and improved quality-of-life.  Here is an interview with EYE5 user, Elizabeth Baker.

When asked how the EYE5 glasses most benefit her, Elizabeth remarks:

“Reading the mail, reading kids’ homework assignments when they come home, as well as it’s the first time I’ve been able to see my husband or my kids’ faces in detail, which has been amazing… I used to sit on the sidelines of their soccer games and have no idea which kid was mine.  And now I can actually wear those [EYE5 glasses] and I can the kids and [watch them] play.”

— Elizabeth Baker, physical therapist, mom, Paralympian, and EYE5 user

“This is amazing.  I haven’t read a newspaper or magazine in quite some time, maybe several years.  I mean I can actually read this magazine.  If this is what I’m going to get with these glasses I would actually start subscribing to newspapers again… I can read everything on the page.”

— Sam Newman, EYE3 User

“It’s almost as good as it used to be when I had perfect vision.  I’m not being slowed down… and Eyedaptic has given me that gift in letting me live my life to the fullest.”

— Brian, Eyedaptic user

“Patients often use multiple low vision devices for daily needs and this hands-free, wearable product combines many of those into just one device.”

— Rebecca Kammer, OD, PhD & Low Vision Specialist
